Traffic Safety in School Zones
The importance of traffic safety in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is a vital component in reducing traffic speeds, improving active transportation networks, and protecting vulnerable road users throughout the Town.
In response to growing safety concerns in school zones and during drop-off and pick-up times, BWG staff from Communications, Transportation, Planning, and Enforcement, together with public and catholic school boards and the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, have partnered to launch “BWG On The Move” — the first municipality-wide active school transportation initiative in Simcoe County.
There are many benefits to students using active transportation, including:
- Increased physical activity
- Improved physical and mental health
- Arriving at school alert and ready to learn
- Less stress and greater happiness
- Less pollution due to reduced vehicle travel to school
- Reduced traffic congestion around schools
- Increased safety for our children and all road users

The initiative sweeping our community to promote active transportation to school.
