On the Move Proclamation 2025

WHEREAS: BWG Council identified Community Safety and Traffic Congestion as strategic priority in their 2022-2026 workplan in response to traffic and pedestrian safety concerns; and

WHEREAS: Simcoe Muskoka On the Move is an active school travel initiative led by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit in partnership with several local school boards, schools, municipalities and community partners; and

WHEREAS: BWG established a dedicated BWG On the Move Working Group, made up of the Town of BWG, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, Simcoe County District School Board, and Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, to identify and overcome barriers that prevent students from walking, wheeling, or busing to/from school. The group supports the community to implement solutions that promote active and sustainable school travel; and

WHEREAS International Walk to School Month (IWALK) is an annual celebration of active transportation that takes place around the world throughout the month of October. Communities come together to celebrate active modes of transportation like walking and wheeling along with other students and staff across Ontario during October.

WHEREAS all schools in Bradford West Gwillimbury are invited to participate in a Town-wide On the Move initiative on October 1, 2025.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim, October 1, 2025, as BWG Walk and Wheel to School Day. May this year’s event continue to promote active transportation and support community safety for all.
