Learning Disabilities Awareness Month

October 2025

WHEREAS: Learning Disabilities refers to a variety of disorders that affect the acquisition, retention, understanding, organization or use of verbal and/or non-verbal information; and,

WHEREAS: Learning disabilities range in severity and invariably interfere with the acquisition and use of one or more of the following important skills: oral language, reading, written language and mathematics; and,

WHEREAS: Learning Disabilities are unique, and every person with a learning disability has a different set of learning needs; and,

WHEREAS: One in 10 people in Ontario are impacted by learning disabilities; and,

WHEREAS: The majority of students receiving special education services in Ontario schools are identified as having a learning disability; and further,

WHEREAS: The goal of Learning Disabilities month is to raise awareness and reduce stigma to allow individuals with LDs to get the supports they need to reach their potential; and

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim October, 2025 as Learning Disabilities Awareness Month in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
