Holland River Bridge Rehabilitation Project

Update on York Region’s Holland River Bridge Rehabilitation Project

We understand that many of our residents are feeling frustrated by the traffic delays caused by the ongoing Holland River Bridge rehabilitation project. We know the impact on your daily commute is real, especially during the morning and afternoon rush hours, but this work is necessary to ensure the long-term safety and functionality of the bridge.

We want to thank everyone for your patience and continued cooperation as this important infrastructure work progresses.

About the Project

This project is being completed by York Region and is essential to extend the life of the bridge and maintain safety for all travelers. The work will take place in two stages:

Note: York Region received an in-water work exemption from the Departments of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, advancing Stage 2 construction.

  • Stage 1: Expected completion in winter 2026 (South side)
  • Stage 2: Beginning immediately after Stage 1; expected completion late spring 2026 (North side)

Stage 1 of the project began on Monday, September 15, 2025, and involves replacing the bridge deck joints and repairing bridge girders. This follows previous work in 2023 on the substructure and timber pile foundation of the bridge.

Staying Informed

For project updates, residents are encouraged to visit York Region’s project page. The Town of BWG will also continue to share project updates on Facebook and Instagram.

We know this project is disruptive, but this work is a key investment in the safety and future of this important piece of local infrastructure. The next few months are going to be challenging for commuters, but we will continue working closely with York Region to provide our residents with important project updates. York Region’s Highway 11 Road Reconstruction project is also expected to be completed later this year, which will ease congestion along that corridor.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as this vital work continues.
