Test Your Smoke Alarm Day

WHEREAS: “Test Your Smoke Alarm Day” is a day of action to promote installing and testing working smoke alarms in every home in Ontario; and
WHEREAS: In 2022, there were 133 fire fatalities in the Province of Ontario, the largest number of fire-related deaths in 20 years; and
WHEREAS: A working smoke alarm has been legally required to be installed on every story of a residence in Ontario since 2006; and
WHEREAS: The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is committed to ensuring the safety of all those living in our Town; and
WHEREAS: Lives will be saved by testing smoke alarms at least once a month, refreshing batteries at least once a year, and replacing smoke alarms older than 10 years; and
WHEREAS: The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is joining the Ontario Fire Marshal and all communities across Ontario in asking everyone to take a minute to ensure that there are working smoke alarms installed in their home;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim September 28, 2025, as TEST YOUR SMOKE ALARM DAY in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
