BWG Proclaims Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day

WHEREAS: Whereas Canadian police and peace officers make valuable contributions to the safety of Canadians, and it is considered appropriate that there be, in each year, a day to mark and pay tribute to the hard work, dedication and sacrifices made by Canadian police and peace officers; and

WHEREAS: Whereas memorial services are held in communities across the country on the last Sunday of September of every year to commemorate those police and peace officers who were killed in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS: We recognize our local heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty, Constable Morgan Russell, Constable Devon Northrup and Constable Alan Kuzmich; and

WHEREAS: by Order in Council P.C. 1998-1703 of September 24, 1998, His Excellency the Governor General in Council has directed that a proclamation do issue declaring the last Sunday in September of each year to be Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day; and

WHEREAS: We recognize and honour the dedication and commitment of our local South Simcoe Police Service officers and all Police and Peace Officers within Canada.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim September 29, 2024, as Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
