BWG Proclaims Mexican Independence Day 2025

Mexican Independence Day

September 16, 2025

WHEREAS: In 1810, after three centuries under Spanish rule, Father Miguel Hidalgo Y Costilla initiated the fight for self-rule as he united the citizens of Mexico in brave defiance of their oppressive rulers; and

WHEREAS: Father Miguel Hidalgo raised the call for independence in the city of Dolores, Mexico, and the Act of Independence was later signed in 1821; and

WHEREAS: The citizens of Mexico hold a deep respect for their ancestors who so valiantly fought to ensure the independence and liberation of their nation; and

WHEREAS: Each year, individuals of Mexican ancestry from throughout the world gather to reflect upon the heroic endeavors of those who gallantly fought for their nation’s independence; and

WHEREAS: It is important for Canadians to celebrate this historic event and to renew and strengthen the cultural ties and sense of goodwill that underscore our enduring relationship

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: That His Worship Mayor James Leduc and Members of Council proclaim September 16, 2025, as Mexican Independence Day in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

The flag-raising will take place on Saturday September 13 at 3:00 pm (outside) at the Court House Courtyard - 57 Holland Street E.
